Metallurgical Engineer

Location: On-site in San Francisco, United States

Salary: $100,000–$140,000 estimated annual base salary, with final compensation dependent on experience, location, and other factors.

What you will do

• Operate, troubleshoot, and improve leaching columns and other pilot-scale processing equipment.
• Plan and execute pilot-scale metallurgical experiments, including sample collection, testing, and data analysis.
• Develop and maintain process documentation such as PFDs, P&IDs, operating procedures, and mass balances.
• Evaluate process performance and implement improvements to increase recovery, efficiency, and pilot plant performance.
• Support automated monitoring and optimization tools with software and machine learning teams.
• Follow EHS procedures and assist with hazard assessments, risk management, and management of change processes.

Requirements

• B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field.
• 2–4 years of relevant experience in hydrometallurgy, mineral processing, extractive metallurgy, pyrometallurgy, pilot plant operations, or process development.
• Experience with laboratory or pilot-scale metallurgical testing and interpretation of experimental results.
• Experience designing, operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing pyrometallurgical reactors, including kilns, retort furnaces, and fluidized beds, with experience in processes above 800°C.
• Experience handling granular materials through conveying, milling, and mixing, plus proficiency in solid, liquid, and gas characterization methods.
• Strong problem-solving, technical writing, communication, teamwork, and health, safety, and environmental compliance skills.

• Experience analyzing data with Excel, Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.
