Текст:
TL;DR
Materials Engineer (Nuclear Materials): Developing and qualifying materials for deployable microreactor systems with an accent on ceramics, metallic alloys, material characterization, and reactor-environment testing. Focus on designing physical, thermal, and mechanical experiments, investigating failure modes, evaluating process variables statistically, and integrating material limits into reactor manufacturing.
Location: Onsite in Torrance, California, United States. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees, asylees, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. government authorizations under export regulations.
Salary: $115,000–$150,000 per year, plus equity.
Company
is a Series B clean-energy startup developing mass-producible, inherently safe microreactors for terrestrial, underwater, and space applications.
What you will do
- Develop and qualify materials for reactor systems, including lifetime testing, property evaluation, and collaboration with external institutions.
- Design and conduct physical, thermal, and mechanical tests that replicate reactor operating conditions.
- Use statistical methods to evaluate process variables and environmental effects on material properties.
- Perform materials characterization and root-cause investigations of failure modes.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, neutronics, mechanical, testing, and quality engineers to integrate materials into the reactor system and optimize production processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in materials engineering.
- Proficiency with optical and electron microscopy and mechanical property evaluation.
- Ability to work long hours and weekends when necessary to support critical milestones.
- Eligibility to work under applicable U.S. government export regulations is required.
Nice to have
- At least 3 years of experience working on an integrated team in a production setting.
- Knowledge of radiation effects in materials.
- Experience with stainless steel, nickel-based superalloys, ceramics, or coatings.
- Exceptional communication skills for cross-functional technical collaboration.
Culture & Benefits
- Equity package in addition to the salary.
- Work in a new 322,000-square-foot facility supporting collaboration, R&D, and production.
- Values include systems thinking, end-user focus, challenging convention, working where the work is, and operating in the grey.
- In-person collaboration is emphasized, with travel to customers, users, or stakeholders when needed.
