Sr. Buyer (Logistics Procurement)

Location: Chicago, Illinois; onsite corporate office environment. Travel of up to 20% may be required for supplier visits, site reviews, bid events, and cross-functional meetings.

Salary: $82,400–$123,600 per year. Benefits include paid time off, medical, dental and vision insurance, and 401(k).

What you will do

• Develop and execute sourcing strategies for truckload, less-than-truckload, intermodal, parcel, drayage, warehousing, brokerage, packaging, and related logistics services.
• Lead RFI, RFP, and RFQ events, analyze bids, compare rate structures, and prepare supplier award recommendations.
• Negotiate transportation rates, accessorial schedules, service-level agreements, fuel surcharges, payment terms, and contract language.
• Manage carrier, broker, warehouse, distributor, and other logistics supplier relationships, including onboarding, performance reviews, corrective actions, and business reviews.
• Analyze spend, lane data, shipment profiles, supplier scorecards, and logistics KPIs to identify savings and improve forecasting.
• Lead improvement initiatives involving freight optimization, supplier rationalization, packaging efficiency, network redesign, and process automation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Finance, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, transportation, logistics, carrier management, or a related supply chain function.
• Knowledge of strategic sourcing, carrier procurement, supplier negotiations, contract review, contract administration, and total cost of ownership analysis.
• Experience with transportation rates, lane economics, accessorial charges, warehouse pricing, supplier scorecards, savings tracking, and RFI/RFP/RFQ processes.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, analytical, and independent judgment skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with ERP, e-sourcing, transportation management, spend analytics, dashboard, or reporting systems.

Nice to have

• Experience in consumer products, manufacturing, food and beverage, or high-volume distribution.
• Experience with freight buying, contract logistics, warehousing procurement, or transportation category management.
• Familiarity with dashboards, reporting tools, and continuous improvement methodologies.
