Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

What you will do

• Own complex backend systems end to end, from scoping and architecture through reliable delivery.
• Design and build scalable APIs and distributed systems that power user-facing products.
• Collaborate with Product, Frontend, and Design to turn product ideas into well-architected backend solutions.
• Evolve backend architecture, infrastructure, and developer tooling to support rapid iteration at scale.
• Drive initiatives that improve system performance, reliability, and developer experience.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience.
• Deep expertise in TypeScript and modern backend frameworks.
• Experience designing and implementing REST, GraphQL, or gRPC APIs.
• Strong experience with SQL databases, including PostgreSQL schema design, query optimization, and data modeling.
• Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, preferably GCP, as well as DevOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Strong communication skills, autonomy, ownership, empathy, and collaborative working style.

Nice to have

• Experience building and scaling systems handling significant traffic or complexity.
• Background in AI products or data-heavy applications.
• Academic background in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Experience founding a company or working at a high-growth startup.
• Markers of excellence such as a high FIDE rating.
