Staff Mechanical Engineer, Structures (Electric Mobility)

Location: Palo Alto, United States; on-site

Salary: $200,000–$240,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.

What you will do

• Design and 3D-model drivetrain mechanical components and assemblies, including castings, injection-molded plastics, sheet metal, and fasteners.
• Create drawing packages, manufacturing instructions, and program-specific DFMEAs.
• Execute design verification and reporting, including DVP&R, sealing analysis, and component hyper-elastic analysis.
• Perform topology optimization, NVH analysis, and linear static stress analysis for complete drive unit systems.
• Coordinate validation efforts with Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers.
• Collaborate across mechanical, electrical, controls, manufacturing, and test engineering from clean-sheet design through prototypes and mass production, including hands-on prototype builds.

Requirements

• Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes such as injection molding and stamping.
• Proficiency with 3D/2D modeling tools; Catia V5/V6 is preferred.
• Hands-on experience integrating, assembling, troubleshooting, and documenting mechanical and electromechanical systems.
• Proficiency with CAE tools such as Ansys, Abaqus, or Hyperworks, including realistic boundary conditions and load application.
• Experience with MATLAB and/or Python, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Strong knowledge of material properties, heat treatment, statics, dynamics, and mechanics of materials.
