Staff Software Engineer - Data Infrastructure (Geospatial)

What you will do

• Design and implement scalable distributed systems for processing and analyzing satellite constellation data.
• Develop database schemas and storage solutions for petabyte-scale 3D geospatial data.
• Architect and maintain APIs and services for geospatial data streaming, querying, and analysis.
• Build data ingestion, processing, and delivery pipelines.
• Implement monitoring, logging, and operational systems for backend reliability and performance.
• Collaborate with scientists, satellite systems engineers, and product teams to define requirements, set engineering standards, and guide the backend roadmap.

Requirements

• 6+ years of backend software engineering experience, including optimization of large-scale data processing pipelines.
• Strong proficiency in Python, C++, or Java.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, as well as Terraform.
• Experience with Docker or Kubernetes.
• Hands-on experience building systems for real-world sensor data such as imagery, video, radar, LiDAR, or telemetry.
• Experience delivering data and services to external stakeholders and making technical decisions in a startup environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with geospatial technologies, spatial databases, mapping services, or 3D visualization.
• Background in physics, remote sensing, robotics, or digital signal processing.
• Experience operating storage and compute resources at petabyte scale.
• Experience building systems from scratch as an early or founding engineer.
