Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: On-site in San Francisco or NYC, five days per week

What you will do

• Build the orchestration layer for agentic workflows and multi-provider LLM infrastructure.
• Develop AI-native experiences for email, calendars, and contacts.
• Design the identity and knowledge layer powering personalized interactions.
• Architect agent networks and trust and autonomy systems.
• Own backend services and technical direction end to end in a greenfield environment.

Requirements

• Experience building and scaling backend systems through a company's high-growth stage, with concrete product scaling examples.
• Ability to define technical direction in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
• Strong systems thinking across distributed systems, data pipelines, APIs, and reliability.
• Experience with LLM infrastructure, agentic systems, or real-time AI workloads in production.
• Willingness to work in person five days per week in San Francisco or NYC.
