Principal Engineer (AI)

Location: United States

Salary: $135,000–$260,000 total cash compensation per year, plus separately offered equity.

What you will do

• Own the most difficult technical problems in the consumer product transformation, from architecture through shipped code.
• Set technical direction and pressure-test major engineering decisions for an approximately 30-person organization.
• Raise engineering standards through design reviews, pairing sessions, code reviews, and practical technical leadership.
• Make AI-assisted development part of the standard engineering workflow through daily use of agents and modern tooling.
• Bring external industry perspective and improve outdated ways of working.
• Partner with the SVP of Engineering and engineering managers as a technical thought partner while remaining an individual contributor.

Requirements

• Many years of experience building and shipping consumer products at scale.
• Current hands-on coding experience, with a commitment to writing code every week.
• Track record of improving the capabilities of engineers working alongside you.
• Deep fluency in Next.js, React, and TypeScript, with strong product architecture judgment.
• Practical conviction in AI-native development and daily experience using AI-assisted tools.
• Ability to influence engineering teams through credibility without formal authority.
