TL;DR
Specialist, OBD Integration Engineer (Automotive): Integrating and validating OBD functions across software-defined vehicle architectures, ECUs, and powertrain, energy, thermal, chassis, and body domains with an accent on diagnostic consistency, fault propagation, and distributed-system behavior. Focus on analyzing vehicle data, HIL/MIL results, and network traces, defining fault-injection test scenarios, and supporting scalable diagnostics for OTA and central-diagnostics capabilities.

Location: Novi, Michigan, United States; 4–5 days per week in the office. Regular in-person meetings, company events, and occasional travel are required.

Salary: $110,000–$135,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

Company

hirify.global is developing electrified, digitally enabled pickup trucks and rugged SUVs, including all-electric and range-extender powertrains.

What you will do

  • Lead OBD function integration across software-defined vehicle architectures, ECUs, domains, and central compute elements.
  • Coordinate OBD implementation across powertrain, energy, thermal, chassis, and body domains.
  • Integrate and validate OBD monitors, diagnostic events, DTC behavior, readiness states, fault propagation, and vehicle-state interactions.
  • Analyze vehicle data, HIL/MIL results, and network traces to identify and resolve system-level diagnostic issues.
  • Define integration test scenarios covering edge cases, fault injection, and cross-domain interactions.
  • Maintain traceability from OBD requirements through system integration and validation, supporting release readiness and future OTA and central-diagnostics capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, technology, IT systems, computer science, mechatronics, or a related field; electrical, automotive, or systems engineering preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive E/E integration, diagnostics, powertrain, or software validation, including OBD integration across multiple ECUs or domains.
  • Experience integrating OBDII functions, including monitor execution, DTC handling, readiness behavior, and cross-ECU communication.
  • Strong understanding of software-defined vehicle architectures, centralized compute, zonal controllers, distributed systems, and cross-domain dependencies.
  • Knowledge of UDS diagnostics, CAN/Ethernet communication, diagnostic event handling, and fault propagation.
  • Hands-on experience with CANoe, CANalyzer, CANape, ETAS INCA, MATLAB/Simulink, trace analysis tools, and requirements tools such as Jama, DOORS, or Polarion.

Culture & Benefits

  • Opportunity to build electrified vehicles and a company from the ground up around an iconic automotive brand.
  • Medical, dental, vision, and income protection insurance plans.
  • 401(k) program with employer matching and immediate vesting.
  • 20 days of planned PTO, 40 hours of unplanned PTO, and 14 company or floating holidays annually.
  • Up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave, plus paid leave for bereavement, jury duty, voting time, and military leave.
