Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: New York City office, United States; in-person work with flexibility to work from home approximately one day per week

Salary: $230,000–$250,000 USD per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Own delivery for an engineering team, keeping engineers unblocked, motivated, and focused on roadmap priorities.
• Partner with Product and Design to define and ship fuel and fleet spend experiences and public APIs.
• Set technical direction across architecture, implementation, engineering fundamentals, and technical debt.
• Coach and develop engineers through close engagement with their work.
• Build AI fluency across the team, guide AI-assisted development, and identify AI features that create product leverage.
• Build an inclusive, high-performing team and hire talent that supports continued engineering excellence.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience managing engineers and developing them into higher-level roles.
• 8+ years of experience in web systems development.
• Strong technical judgment, including architectural decision-making, technical debt management, and maintaining high engineering standards.
• Hands-on experience implementing AI-driven features in production and developing AI fluency in engineering teams.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse stakeholders.
• Proven experience hiring and developing engineering talent in an early- to mid-stage startup environment.
