Principal People Business Partner (SaaS)

Location: San Jose, California, United States; hybrid with in-office work required 3 days per week

What you will do

• Advise the CTO, SVP of Product, and R&D leadership on workforce planning, organizational design, culture initiatives, and technical talent strategy.
• Develop technical career ladders covering individual contributor, Principal/Architect, and management pathways.
• Coach technical leads and managers on feedback, conflict resolution, team motivation, and people leadership.
• Analyze engagement data, turnover trends, and hiring metrics to provide actionable insights to R&D leadership.
• Coordinate with Finance, Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, and People Operations on headcount planning, performance cycles, compensation, promotions, and talent reviews.

Requirements

• 8+ years of HR experience, including 3+ years as a senior People Business Partner supporting R&D in a high-growth technology or SaaS company.
• Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, including sprints, technical debt, DevOps, and backend engineering.
• Experience advising C-suite and VP-level leaders and partnering with Finance, Accounting, and Operations.
• Experience leading people strategies during rapid growth, international expansion, or post-IPO scaling.
• Advanced ability to interpret people data and communicate insights to executives.
• BA/BS degree required; an advanced degree or SHRM-SCP/SPHR certification is preferred.
