Principal Product Application Engineer (PCIe)

Location: San Jose, California, United States; travel to customer sites worldwide is required for on-site technical support and system integration.

Salary: $170,500–$220,000 annually, depending on experience, level, and business need; discretionary bonus, incentives, and benefits may also apply.

What you will do

• Serve as the primary technical resource for customers evaluating and deploying Aries PCIe retimers.
• Deliver technical presentations, product training, demonstrations, and customer enablement.
• Lead root cause analysis and debugging of PCIe signal integrity and protocol issues in customer systems.
• Support lab bring-up, characterization, validation, and test-plan execution.
• Create application notes, reference designs, best-practice guides, datasheets, and user guides.
• Partner with engineering, product management, sales, and marketing to convert customer feedback into product requirements and roadmap inputs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in applications engineering, technical support, or system engineering.
• Strong knowledge of PCIe architecture, protocol, and electrical specifications across Gen4, Gen5, and Gen6.
• Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, and BERT tools, including debugging high-speed serial interfaces at physical and protocol layers.
• Experience developing and modifying firmware in C to implement features, optimize performance, and resolve technical issues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with willingness to travel to customer sites worldwide.

Nice to have

• Experience with PCIe retimers, redrivers, or similar connectivity components.
• Familiarity with server, storage, or GPU architectures and hyperscale or enterprise data center customers.
• Signal integrity analysis and simulation experience.
• Scripting with Python or TCL for test automation and data analysis.
• Experience creating technical documentation and application notes.
