Staff Engineer (Python/TypeScript)

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid with 3 days per week in the office

Salary: $197,600–$296,400 annual base salary, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Architect and scale a unified communications platform for SMS, email, push notifications, and in-app messaging.
• Define the long-term technical roadmap for proactive member outreach in partnership with Product and Engineering leadership.
• Integrate predictive machine learning models into communication workflows and business logic.
• Improve throughput, latency, observability, error handling, message deliverability, and member data privacy.
• Establish best practices for CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and production ML model performance.
• Mentor senior and intermediate engineers and collaborate with Product, Design, Marketing, and Data Science.

Requirements

• 4+ years of non-internship, full-time professional software engineering experience.
• 2+ years of experience with Python for backend and data integration and TypeScript/Node.js for services.
• 2+ years of experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and containerization tools.
• 2+ years of experience with distributed systems, microservices architectures, and large-scale data processing.
• 2+ years of experience mentoring and leading junior team members and collaborating cross-functionally.
• Experience with member-facing communication platforms, production ML integration, and sensitive healthcare data is required or strongly relevant.

Nice to have

• Experience with Twilio, Braze, or internal notification engines.
• Interest in or experience with LLMs and conversational agents.
• Knowledge of Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Experience in healthcare, HIPAA, or another highly regulated industry.
