Senior Target Fabrication Engineer - Assembly (Fusion)

Salary: $175,900–$263,800 USD per year base salary, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Manage end-to-end delivery of fusion targets, including component sourcing, technical requirements, budgets, schedules, and final integration.
• Lead precision assembly of complex target systems with micron-level accuracy.
• Coordinate with scientists, engineers, fabrication technicians, and internal customer groups to translate requirements into fabrication and assembly plans.
• Design assembly fixtures, jigs, specialized tooling, and handling equipment using CAD.
• Establish project timelines and resource plans for transitioning R&D prototypes to high-throughput production.
• Oversee quality control, inspection standards, and documentation for delivered targets.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven project management experience in a precision engineering environment involving complex assemblies.
• Hands-on experience with precision assembly techniques, GD&T, and technical drawings.
• Ability to drive projects from concept and prototyping through high-cadence internal delivery.
• Strong communication skills for serving as a technical liaison across scientific, engineering, and fabrication functions.
• Proficiency in CAD modeling for assembly jigs, fixtures, and handling equipment.

Nice to have

• Experience with small-scale, high-complexity hardware, micron-level tolerances, and delicate material interfaces.
• Knowledge of chemical and material bonding techniques, including glue, epoxy, soldering, and precision welding.
• Experience with automated or semi-automated assembly systems.
• Familiarity with cleanroom operations and cryogenic vacuum systems.
• Knowledge of advanced metrology, including radiography or tomography for complex 3D assemblies.
