TL;DR
Staff Reliability Engineer (Electric Vehicles): Developing and leading reliability for multiple electric mobility vehicles across the full development cycle with an accent on reliability targets, accelerated testing, failure analysis, and field performance. Focus on designing lifetime prediction methods, facilitating FMEAs, creating verification plans, and guiding cross-functional teams through complex reliability risks.

Location: Palo Alto, United States. Onsite attendance in the office is required 5 days per week; limited flexibility for up to 1 remote day per week may be available after ramp-up, subject to manager and business needs.

Salary: $220,000–$255,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.

What you will do

  • Establish reliability targets and metrics for actuators, batteries, drive units, PCBAs, chassis, and low-voltage electronic systems.
  • Develop accelerated life, environmental, and other reliability test procedures and specifications.
  • Apply acceleration models to predict product lifetime under accelerated stress conditions.
  • Prepare test plans, analyze test reports, and provide updates on testing campaigns.
  • Guide engineering teams on failure modes, countermeasures, design guidelines, and reliability risk analysis.
  • Monitor field performance, facilitate FMEAs, and develop design verification plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline or equivalent, plus 5+ years of industry experience in reliability engineering.
  • Technical knowledge of PCBA reliability, energy storage systems, drive units, or chassis components.
  • Working knowledge of Python or another coding language and reliability statistics software such as JMP, ReliaSoft, or MATLAB.
  • Knowledge of failure analysis techniques including SEM, CT, X-ray, EDS, and TDR.
  • Experience with test instrumentation such as thermocouples, strain gauges, and accelerometers.
  • Experience developing reliability testing methods and using FEA software such as Ansys Sherlock for product life prediction.
