Senior Propulsion Component Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: El Segundo, California, United States. Applicants must be U.S. persons under ITAR requirements.

Annual salary: $150,000–$250,000 USD.

What you will do

• Lead the design of propulsion components and assemblies, including valves, regulators, servovalves, actuators, pumps, and manifolds.
• Perform hydraulic and pneumatic analysis of flow, pressure drop, response, and thermal behavior across operating conditions.
• Develop analytical and CFD models to predict performance, size components, and guide design decisions.
• Select materials, seals, and surface treatments for fluid compatibility, pressure, temperature, and contamination requirements.
• Create production-ready CAD models, GD&T-controlled drawings, design requirements, interface control documents, and technical data packages.
• Support build and qualification activities, lead root cause analysis and corrective actions, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of experience designing propulsion systems or fluid power hardware in aerospace, defense, or another high-reliability industry.
• Strong knowledge of propulsion components, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, or NX, plus GD&T.
• Experience carrying a design from requirements through qualification.
• Must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR: U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected person.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Experience with ANSYS Fluent or Simcenter STAR-CCM+.
• Experience with servo valves, aerospace actuation, or high-pressure fluid systems.
• Familiarity with DO-160 environmental qualification and relevant MIL-STD requirements.
• Experience working across multiple manufacturing sites or factories.
