Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States, or based at the headquarters in Ventura, California

Salary: $140,000–$175,000 per year plus equity

What you will do

• Own engineering problems end to end, from understanding requirements and scoping solutions to production release and measuring outcomes.
• Ship in weekly development loops and use feedback from real users and stakeholders to guide product improvements.
• Build across the full stack, including backend services with TypeScript, Node, Postgres, NATS, and Redis, as well as interfaces with React and React Native.
• Use AI tooling such as Claude Code, Cursor, Claude, and Bedrock in daily development while critically reviewing generated code.
• Improve code quality, test coverage, performance, maintainability, and system reliability.
• Communicate proactively, ask scope questions early, and work directly with people closest to each problem.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience building production software used by real customers.
• Working experience across the full stack, including TypeScript or Node.js backend systems and React interfaces.
• Active day-to-day use of AI development tooling, with the judgment to review its output before production release.
• Ability to turn ambiguous problems into shipped outcomes and communicate proactively with stakeholders.
• Systems awareness sufficient to write code that performs under load and account for non-happy-path scenarios.
• Must be based in the United States for the remote arrangement.

Nice to have

• Production experience with Claude Code or a similar AI coding agent.
• Startup or small-team experience.
• Exposure to message queues, caching layers, or event-driven architecture.
• Examples of refactoring, performance improvements, or test-suite improvements that prevented real bugs.
