Electro-Optic Systems Architect (Photonics): Modeling and co-designing Passage’s electrical-optical-electrical links using photonics and analog simulation tools, with an accent on RF experiments, prototype validation, and architectural specifications. Location: Toronto, ON, Canada; flexible hybrid workplace model

Salary: 118,000–171,000 CAD per year in base salary, plus equity and other rewards.

What you will do

  • Model electro-optic systems using Cadence photonics-analog simulators, VPI Photonics, and Keysight ADS.
  • Co-design analog and photonic devices with cross-disciplinary engineering teams using end-to-end simulation results.
  • Design high-speed RF experiments and proof-of-concept tests to validate models.
  • Analyze prototype and existing measurement data to assess system performance.
  • Author, review, and validate architectural specifications.

Requirements

  • PhD in electrical engineering, physics, applied physics, photonics, or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, Verilog-A, Ansys HFSS, and Keysight ADS.
  • Advanced simulation coding skills in Python or Matlab.
  • Advanced RF/mm-wave analog circuit design experience.
  • Experience with corner analysis and Monte Carlo analysis.
  • Strong cross-disciplinary collaboration and problem-solving skills for technically complex problems.

Nice to have

  • Silicon photonic integrated circuit design and test experience.
  • Knowledge of signal processing and signal integrity in optical communications.
  • Knowledge of SERDES and mixed-signal interfaces.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
