TL;DR
Sr. Marine Engineer, Marine Operations (Offshore Energy Hardware): Designing, building, and testing bespoke mechanical support equipment for automated deployment, retrieval, inspection, and maintenance of ocean energy assets with an accent on marine systems, offshore operations, and end-to-end hardware development. Focus on leading load-outs and deployments, developing novel automated marine support systems, coordinating vendors, and commissioning equipment in harsh offshore environments.

Location: Portland, Oregon, United States; ideally on-site when not offshore. Exceptional remote candidates may be considered with regular travel to the offices. Periodic offshore travel, vendor visits, and test-site travel are required.

Salary: $180,000–$230,000 per year, plus company equity.

What you will do

  • Lead offshore operations including load-outs, wet towage, deployments, recoveries, moorings, and test campaigns.
  • Manage a small team of offshore operations technicians and help build the offshore team structure.
  • Coordinate vessel operators, ports, equipment operators, divers, and other critical vendors.
  • Serve as the Responsible Engineer for automated marine support systems involving welded structures, mechanisms, hydraulics, pneumatics, industrial controls, and data acquisition.
  • Conduct trade studies, engineering analyses, CAD design, fabrication, testing, commissioning, and sustaining engineering for marine equipment.
  • Interface with marine regulators and classification bodies, including the USCG and ABS.

Requirements

  • BS or higher in mechanical or marine engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience owning novel hardware development from concept through commissioning.
  • Strong understanding of marine engineering fundamentals, including welded structures, mechanical assemblies, hydraulics, pneumatics, industrial automation, and data acquisition.
  • Ability to solve problems without clear precedents or well-defined requirements and manage critical vendor relationships.
  • Competence with 3D modeling software and mechanical design practices; Siemens NX is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work on-site in Portland when not offshore, or travel regularly to the offices if working remotely; periodic offshore travel is required.

  • Offshore operations experience.
  • Leadership experience in engineering development, fabrication, or operations.
  • Structural FEA experience.
  • Experience designing hardware for offshore environments.
  • Experience working with marine regulatory bodies or classification societies.
