Manufacturing Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States; on-site

Development and operation of full-size autonomous cargo aircraft, including a seaplane and a STOL aircraft designed to carry two tons of payload over long distances.

What you will do

• Design and deliver tooling, jigs, and fixtures for aircraft assembly and fabrication.
• Program and machine custom tooling components using CAM software, vertical mills, routers, and multi-axis CNC equipment.
• Rapidly prototype manufacturing solutions for evolving aircraft designs and assembly sequences.
• Conduct first article inspections, dimensional validation, and tooling verification.
• Collaborate with design engineers on DFM feedback and improve part manufacturability.
• Develop assembly procedures and work instructions, troubleshoot tooling issues, and iterate designs based on production-floor feedback.

Requirements

• Proficiency with CAD software such as Fusion, SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or similar.
• Hands-on CAM programming experience and the ability to machine parts independently on vertical mills and multi-axis CNC equipment.
• Strong understanding of GD&T, tooling tolerancing, metrology equipment, and inspection techniques.
• Knowledge of composite materials and manufacturing processes including layup, bonding, trimming, and drilling.
• Understanding of design for manufacturing principles and the ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment.
• Ability to work on-site in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Nice to have

• Fusion 360 integrated CAD/CAM experience.
• Experience with Haas vertical mills, gantry-style CNC routers, or 4th/5th-axis CAM programming.
• Hands-on composite layup or trimming experience.
• Welding experience for fixture fabrication or FDM experience for rapid tooling prototypes.
