TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace & Defense) (CAD/PDM): Owning mechanical design and engineering documentation for structural defense products, including missile, hypersonic, UAV, and aerospace metallic structures, from concept through production release with an accent on producibility, configuration management, and manufacturing scalability. Focus on developing production-quality CAD models and drawings, administering PDM workflows, applying GD&T and DFM standards, and mentoring multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Location: Chatsworth, California, United States; onsite in engineering and manufacturing environments

What you will do

  • Own mechanical design from concept through released production drawings, assemblies, bills of materials, and technical documentation.
  • Create and modify mechanical designs for structural defense, missile, hypersonic, UAV, and aerospace products.
  • Identify and resolve producibility risks across forming, welding, machining, trimming, drilling, fixturing, assembly, inspection, and integration.
  • Serve as release authority for CAD models, drawings, assemblies, and design data.
  • Administer PDM workflows, revision control, permissions, and configuration management.
  • Establish engineering standards and mentor manufacturing, process, and applications engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of mechanical design or product development experience with ownership through production release.
  • Advanced proficiency with parametric CAD software; SolidWorks is preferred, with Siemens NX, CATIA, Creo, and Autodesk Inventor also considered.
  • Experience administering or configuring a PDM system, preferably SolidWorks PDM.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, ASME Y14.5, production-quality drawings, assemblies, bills of materials, and technical documentation.
  • Understanding of DFM for fabricated metal components and assemblies, plus strong communication and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with PDM workflows, revision control, and engineering configuration management.
  • Background in aerospace, defense, robotics, or other high-performance mechanical systems.
  • Experience with Model-Based Definition, 3D annotations, or digital manufacturing workflows.
  • Knowledge of aerospace materials, AS9100, First Article Inspection, and production documentation.
  • Startup, prototype, or fast-paced product development experience.
