TL;DR
Composites Engineer (Aerospace): Developing and supporting composite manufacturing processes, tooling, and assembly methods for prototype and production autonomous cargo aircraft components with an accent on layup, bonding, curing, trimming, drilling, and assembly. Focus on designing fixtures, troubleshooting builds on the shop floor, improving process capability and yield, and transitioning new airframe designs to production.

What you will do

  • Design, fabricate, and procure tooling, molds, jigs, and fixtures for composite fabrication and assembly.
  • Develop and document manufacturing processes for layup, bonding, curing, trimming, drilling, and assembly of composite airframe components.
  • Collaborate with design engineering to improve manufacturability, structural integrity, and production efficiency.
  • Support prototype builds directly on the production floor, troubleshoot issues, and refine build methods with technicians.
  • Define material handling, kitting, and cure-cycle parameters and maintain manufacturing documentation, work instructions, travelers, and BOM information.
  • Analyze process capability, investigate non-conformances, implement corrective actions, and support supplier coordination and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing, or Materials Engineering, or equivalent technical experience.
  • 2–5 years of hands-on composite fabrication or manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace or a related industry.
  • Strong knowledge of carbon fiber, fiberglass, epoxy systems, hand layup, resin infusion, RTM, and bonding.
  • Experience supporting technicians and shop-floor operations in prototype-oriented environments.
  • Ability to design tooling and fixtures in CAD and work with hand tools, measuring equipment, and basic shop machinery.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of GD&T and tolerancing for tooling and composite fabrication drawings.

Nice to have

  • Experience with PLM, MES, ERP, CAM, revision control, and change management systems.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, 5S, process optimization, and digital manufacturing integration.
  • Experience managing timelines for complex projects.
  • Familiarity with FAA or DoD requirements for composite structures.
