TL;DR
Lead, Manufacturing Engineer- Composites (Aerospace) (composite rocket motor hardware): Developing and managing fabrication processes, documentation, and process improvements for advanced composite aerospace hardware with an accent on Lean Manufacturing, process controls, and safety requirements. Focus on designing robust manufacturing processes, investigating nonconforming hardware, supporting facility transitions, and presenting fabrication changes to customers.

Location: Onsite in Huntsville, Alabama, at the Advanced Manufacturing Facility. The schedule is 4/10, with four 10-hour workdays per week. Occasional off-shift, weekend, and limited travel may be required.

What you will do

  • Lead process management and continuous improvement activities for composite rocket motor hardware fabrication and assembly.
  • Plan, develop, initiate, and maintain manufacturing processes for advanced composite parts and inert product lines.
  • Create work instructions, procedures, PFMEAs, and JSAs aligned with design, quality, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to support part and tooling design, process accuracy, and hardware quality.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to shop-floor, design, and management teams.
  • Investigate nonconforming hardware, implement corrective actions, and present fabrication processes and changes during customer reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 9 years of manufacturing engineering experience; alternatively, a graduate degree and at least 7 years of experience, or 13 years of experience without a degree.
  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing engineering processes and documentation for advanced aerospace hardware.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance; security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.
  • Strong cross-functional communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work occasional off-shift and weekend schedules and travel to suppliers or other manufacturing sites when required.

Nice to have

  • Composite fabrication experience, including hand layup, insulation curing, surface preparation, structural bonding, and rocket motor nozzle fabrication.
  • Experience with composite cure ovens, autoclaves, robots, presses, winders, CNC machines, cutting tables, and precision aerospace assembly.
  • Experience writing equipment specifications, CAD modeling, and applying GD&T for part validation.
