Cyber Security Engineer (Microsoft/Azure)

Salary: $98,000–$137,500 USD per year, plus potential equity grants.

What you will do

• Build and operate the enterprise cybersecurity program, covering security architecture, governance, detection, response, and automation.
• Engineer the Microsoft security stack, including Defender XDR, endpoint protection, SIEM/MDR solutions, Azure, and Microsoft 365 controls.
• Lead incident response activities including containment, investigation, remediation, forensic preservation, and stakeholder communication.
• Conduct security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing across infrastructure, applications, and cloud environments.
• Develop security policies, procedures, baselines, change control processes, compliance programs, and security awareness training.
• Build detection logic and automate workflows to improve alert fidelity, efficiency, and security coverage.

Requirements

• 8+ years of progressive cybersecurity engineering experience, including building and operating security programs.
• Deep hands-on expertise with Defender XDR, Entra ID Protection, Azure, and Microsoft 365 security controls.
• Experience deploying and managing MDR/SIEM solutions for 24/7 threat monitoring and SOC operations.
• Strong incident response experience, including containment, investigation, remediation, forensic preservation, and risk communication.
• Working knowledge of NIST 800-171, NIST CSF, CIS benchmarks, and PCI DSS, with practical audit and control assessment experience.
• Experience with vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, endpoint protection, security baselines, change control, and security automation.

Nice to have

• Experience building a cybersecurity program from scratch at a startup or early-stage company.
• Familiarity with ISO 27001, Illumio, Palo Alto, Zscaler, KnowBe4, or phishing simulation programs.
• Background in systems administration with Active Directory, Citrix, SCCM, or Intune.
• Experience with Tenable.ot or operational technology security.
• CISSP, SANS GIAC, or advanced Microsoft security certifications; CISSP in progress is acceptable.
• Eligibility or willingness to obtain a security clearance for potential future classified work.
