Prototype Engineering Technician IV

Location: Houston, United States; work is generally performed in a shop environment, with inside or outside work depending on the task.

What you will do

• Build mockups and prototype hardware for conceptual models, human factors assessments, engineering development, production tooling, and crew training.
• Lead the fabrication of components using wood, metal, composites, plastic, and other raw materials.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, table saws, drill presses, press brakes, grinders, CNC routers, laser cutters, and related shop equipment.
• Collaborate with design and engineering teams to develop projects and communicate progress, status, and potential issues.
• Set up and maintain equipment, tooling, and prototyping capabilities.
• Apply agile project management methods throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and 8–15 years of experience in fabrication, R&D, or a shop environment.
• Safe operation of hand and power tools, miter saws, drill presses, and metal-forming tools.
• Knowledge of materials, fasteners, manufacturing processes, schematics, and assembly drawings.
• Operational knowledge of 3D printers, laser cutters, and/or CNC routers.
• Ability to work safely over uneven terrain, in confined spaces, or at height, and to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Access to export-controlled technical data may require U.S. export-control screening under NASA regulations, ITAR, or EAR; meeting the requirements is a condition of employment. Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed is required.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks, Rhino 3D, Mastercam, or VCarve.
• Knowledge of electrical or mechanical systems.
