Senior Mechanical Engineer (Fusion): Designing, analyzing, integrating, and validating mechanical systems and components for a pulser-driven inertial fusion platform with an accent on precision engineering, manufacturability, and first-of-kind technology. Focus on owning designs from concept through fabrication and test, performing structural, thermal, and dynamic analysis, and coordinating integrated system-level development across multidisciplinary teams.

Location: Fremont, CA, United States

Salary: $138,100–$263,800 USD per year

Company

hirify.global is developing pulser-driven inertial fusion systems and components intended to enable abundant, affordable, clean energy.

What you will do

  • Develop mechanical designs for fusion-system components, including vacuum vessels, structural assemblies, diagnostics hardware, and experimental fixtures.
  • Own design changes and improvements from concept through fabrication and testing.
  • Perform structural, thermal, and dynamic mechanical analyses to validate designs against requirements.
  • Work with vendors and manufacturers to deliver practical, cost-effective, and manufacturable designs.
  • Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies for novel engineering challenges.
  • Coordinate with plasma physics, pulsed power, electrical, software, and manufacturing engineering teams on integrated system designs.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience, preferably with complex multidisciplinary systems.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent, with strong 3D modeling practices.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis for structural, thermal, or dynamic applications.
  • Experience taking mechanical designs from concept through fabrication and test.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, design for manufacturability, laboratory or prototype work, and the ability to mentor junior engineers.

Nice to have

  • Experience in fusion, plasma physics, accelerator physics, defense, or other high-consequence technical environments.
  • Familiarity with vacuum systems, cryogenics, high-voltage hardware, or pulsed power components.
  • Experience with large-scale structural systems, pressure vessels, or custom capital equipment.
  • Master’s degree or PhD.

Culture & Benefits

  • Equity plan.
  • 6% employer 401(k) matching.
  • Paid time off, including sick leave, vacation, and paid family leave.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
