Staff Configuration Management Engineer (Safety-Critical Software/Firmware)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; hybrid schedule with onsite work at the Mountain View HQ office 3 days per week and flexibility for the remaining days.

Salary: $167,000–$208,000 per year

What you will do

• Define and own configuration management plans and processes, including configuration identification, baseline management, and change control.
• Create and control development, integration, and release baselines for software configuration items.
• Standardize Git and GitLab workflows, including branching, merge request approvals, tagging, and releases.
• Ensure reproducible builds, controlled toolchains, and traceability across requirements, code, and tests.
• Govern release configuration items and change control across multiple software teams, including impact assessment and authorization.
• Prepare audit evidence, report configuration status, enable teams through training and automation, and improve CM process maturity.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent field, with at least 10 years of experience and 5 years in configuration management.
• Experience with configuration management in safety-critical or regulated environments.
• Strong knowledge of DO-178C or an equivalent standard.
• Strong experience with Git-based workflows, such as GitLab.
• Experience defining and governing processes across multiple teams, including traceability, baseline management, and change control.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with CI/CD and reproducible builds for safety-critical systems.
• Familiarity with requirements and lifecycle data management tools.
• Experience working across multiple systems within a single product.
