TL;DR
Senior Electrical Engineer, Radiation Effects & Reliability (Spacecraft Avionics): Ensuring spacecraft electronics remain resilient in Low Earth Orbit through radiation assurance, reliability analysis, and mitigation strategy development with an accent on radiation testing, fault-tolerant avionics, and system-level risk assessment. Focus on characterizing single-event effects, designing FDIR and radiation-hardening techniques, and translating environmental data into robust spacecraft architectures.

Location: Greater Seattle Area, on-site. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals, or eligible to obtain the required ITAR authorizations.

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 annually.

Company

Develops satellite infrastructure for the orbital economy, including space-based energy transmission, on-orbit computing, and secure high-bandwidth optical data communications.

What you will do

  • Own radiation effects and reliability across spacecraft electrical systems from architecture through on-orbit operations.
  • Define radiation and reliability requirements at component and system levels.
  • Plan and execute heavy-ion, proton, gamma, and total ionizing dose radiation test campaigns for FPGAs, ASICs, power electronics, and COTS components.
  • Analyze single-event effects, displacement damage, and radiation test data to guide design decisions.
  • Develop avionics reliability strategies including redundancy, FDIR, derating, degraded-mode robustness, ECC, watchdogs, latch-up protection, and shielding.
  • Perform FMEA/FMECA, fault tree analysis, WCCA, radiation environment modeling, and system-level risk and margin assessments while partnering with avionics, hardware, and software teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in radiation effects, avionics reliability, or high-reliability electronics.
  • Hands-on experience with SEE and TID radiation testing, including test methodologies and data analysis.
  • Experience with FMEA/FMECA, fault tree analysis, derating, and WCCA.
  • Strong understanding of FPGAs, ASICs, power systems, mixed-signal circuits, and failure mechanisms in harsh environments.
  • Ability to translate analysis results into actionable design and system-level improvements.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience with spaceflight hardware and LEO, MEO, GEO, or deep-space missions.
  • Expertise in SEU, SEL, SET, rad-hard or rad-tolerant design, and radiation analysis tools such as SPENVIS, OMERE, or NOVICE.
  • Familiarity with NASA and MIL-STD standards and system-level trade studies under mass and power constraints.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or advanced hardware startups and the ability to lead ambiguous cross-functional engineering decisions.

Culture & Benefits

  • Equity in hirify.global Corp.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and eligible dependents.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan, paid time off, 10 paid holidays, and paid parental leave.
  • Relocation assistance if applicable.
  • Daily office lunch and a stocked kitchen with beverages and snacks.
