TL;DR
Principal/Staff Electrical Engineer (Brain-Computer Interfaces): Architecting, validating, and productizing core electronics systems and scientist-facing instrumentation for high-bandwidth brain-computer interfaces with an accent on mixed-signal design, automated testing, and measurement reproducibility. Location: San Francisco Bay Area, on-site

Salary: $225,000–$260,000 per year plus equity

hirify.global is a frontier research lab developing high-bandwidth brain-computer interfaces that integrate biological and artificial intelligence.

What you will do

  • Architect, design, simulate, lay out, bring up, and verify complex electronics integrating ASICs, FPGAs, MCUs, high-speed digital interfaces, low-noise analog, clocks, triggers, and power delivery.
  • Own PCBA and system-level electrical architecture, including signal and power integrity, grounding, clocking, EMC/EMI, thermal interactions, interconnects, DFM, and DFT.
  • Develop automated test and characterization infrastructure using custom hardware, integration firmware, and Python/C/C++ tooling.
  • Build reusable scientist-facing instrumentation such as signal-conditioning modules, calibration fixtures, sensor and actuator interfaces, trigger and clock distribution, and DAQ/test boards.
  • Define quantitative performance and acceptance criteria, validate systems with data, and document reproducible measurement procedures.
  • Manage vendor and contract manufacturer relationships through design release, test development, yield improvement, failure analysis, and reliability issues.

Requirements

  • Deep experience designing complex electronic systems through architecture, board bring-up, debugging, verification, and manufacturing transfer.
  • Advanced mixed-signal expertise, including low-noise analog and/or power fundamentals, high-speed digital integration, clocking, signal and power integrity, grounding, and dense-system design.
  • Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, spectrum/network analyzers, logic analyzers, electronic loads, precision sources and meters, and custom test setups.
  • Practical proficiency in Python and C/C++ for hardware bring-up, automated characterization, test control, and integration.
  • Experience delivering manufacturable designs and working directly with vendors and contract manufacturers.
  • Ability to collaborate with Mechanical, ASIC/FPGA, Firmware, Software/Platform, Clinical, and scientific teams and mentor engineers.

Nice to have

  • Experience with ultrasound, imaging, scientific instrumentation, lab automation, medical devices, implantables, or large-channel-count acquisition systems.
