What you will do
- Build and lead the legal function as ’s first legal hire and advise founders and executives on strategic matters.
- Negotiate enterprise customer agreements and establish scalable contracting processes with Sales, Partnerships, Customer Success, and Finance.
- Advise Product and Engineering on AI regulations, product launches, responsible AI governance, and global legal frameworks.
- Support fundraising, board governance, strategic transactions, international expansion, corporate structuring, and future M&A activity.
- Develop the intellectual property strategy covering copyright, licensing, open-source software, trademarks, patents, and AI-generated software.
- Establish legal systems and operating models, manage outside counsel, advise on employment matters, and recruit future legal team members.
Requirements
- J.D. degree and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
- 8–15 years of legal experience combining top-tier law firm and in-house work.
- Experience supporting high-growth technology companies and negotiating commercial and enterprise agreements.
- Strong business judgment, risk management, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Based in San Francisco, United States.
Nice to have
- Experience at a high-growth AI, SaaS, developer tools, infrastructure, or enterprise software company.
- Experience as an early or first legal hire.
- Knowledge of AI, intellectual property, data privacy, and technology transactions.
- Experience with fundraising, board governance, international expansion, and direct work with founders and executive teams.
