TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Engineer, Fluid Systems (Renewable Ocean Technology): Designing and deploying critical fluid subsystems for the Node, an autonomous ocean technology platform, with an accent on detailed engineering, system integration, reliability, and manufacturability. Focus on analyzing and testing safety-critical fluid systems, resolving field issues, and developing robust components for long-term operation in severe marine environments.

Location: On-site in Portland, Oregon, United States. Travel to vendors and test sites may be required. Relocation assistance to Portland is available if needed.

Salary: $155,000–$205,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

  • Own the design and development of critical fluid subsystems and components from concept through deployment.
  • Perform detailed design and analysis, including material selection, sizing, and system integration.
  • Collaborate with senior technical staff, mechanical design, manufacturing, testing teams, and external vendors.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to system architecture and technical decisions.
  • Produce engineering documentation, including drawings and GD&T, and support fabrication and assembly.
  • Validate performance through testing, troubleshoot issues, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, naval architecture, marine engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience designing fluid-system components and subsystems.
  • 5+ years of 3D CAD modeling experience.
  • Experience with complex, safety-critical, or high-performance fluid systems and multiple design-build-test cycles.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals, including hand calculations and simulation tools, along with strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, technicians, and external partners.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree or equivalent additional engineering experience.
  • NX/Teamcenter or similar CAD/PLM experience.
  • Familiarity with marine or offshore systems, including hydraulics, welded structures, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience with Python, Julia, or Mathematica.
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 and experience working in fast-paced, iterative environments.
