TL;DR
Senior Fluid Systems Engineer - Pharmaceutical Payloads (Aerospace): Developing electromechanical fluid-handling payloads that manufacture pharmaceuticals in microgravity and survive hypersonic reentry, with an accent on precision fluid systems, thermal control, and full-cycle hardware development. Focus on designing, analyzing, testing, and integrating compact valves, pumps, manifolds, filters, sensors, and other fluidic assemblies for demanding spacecraft environments.

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States

Salary: $140,000–$180,000 per year, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

Company

hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing payloads, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses, which are built, integrated, and tested in-house.

What you will do

  • Own pharmaceutical manufacturing payloads through concept development, design, integration, launch, in-orbit operation, reentry, recovery, and iteration.
  • Design precision fluid systems using valves, pumps, pistons, manifolds, tubing, fittings, seals, filters, sensors, metering hardware, and thermal-control systems.
  • Perform fluid, thermal, structural, and mechanism analyses using hand calculations, Python/MATLAB models, and FEA as needed.
  • Build, instrument, and test prototypes and flight hardware for flow, mixing, filtration, sealing, leakage, pressure drop, thermal stability, contamination sensitivity, and reliability.
  • Translate mission objectives into payload requirements and coordinate inputs across pharmaceutical science, business development, avionics, software, thermal, mechanisms, integration, and test teams.
  • Develop subsystem requirements, ICDs, verification plans, test reports, and recovery procedures while mentoring junior engineers and interns.

Requirements

  • BS/BEng in mechanical, aerospace, mechatronics, biomedical, chemical, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 4+ years of experience designing, integrating, testing, and troubleshooting electromechanical hardware.
  • Strong mechanical and fluid systems expertise, plus breadth in an adjacent discipline such as avionics, software, thermal systems, optics, testing, or precision instrumentation.
  • Experience delivering hardware for rigorous environments such as aerospace, defense, semiconductor manufacturing, or biotech manufacturing.
  • Experience with fluid-handling components and compact fluidic assemblies, including valves, pumps, pistons, tubing, manifolds, fittings, seals, filters, sensors, and thermal-control hardware.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR requirements.

Nice to have

  • Full-cycle ownership of precision fluid-handling hardware for space, semiconductor, biotech, analytical, medical-device, or related applications.
  • Experience with P&IDs, fluid schematics, component sizing, pressure-drop analysis, leak testing, flow characterization, fluid/thermal modeling, or design of experiments.
  • Experience with compact liquid or gas systems subject to thermal, cleanliness, pressure, sterility, or contamination constraints.
  • Aerospace environmental testing experience, including vibration, TVAC, or EMI/EMC testing.
  • Familiarity with microgravity fluid behavior, capillary-driven flows, gas/liquid separation, two-phase flow, cGMP principles, cleanrooms, or regulated hardware.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment with flexible PTO and 12 paid holidays.
  • Company-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents, with FSA and employer-matched HSA options.
  • 12 weeks of parental leave, family-building and parenting benefits, and sponsored One Medical memberships.
  • 401(k) plan with a 6% immediately vested employer match, incentive equity, and relocation support if needed.
  • Daily lunch, dinner twice weekly, wellness reimbursement, team events, and complimentary EV charging.
