TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace): Developing mission-critical electromechanical hardware and motion-control components across the full product lifecycle with an accent on precision mechanism design, ruggedized avionics, and environmental qualification. Focus on translating ambiguous mission needs into requirements, sizing actuator components, designing test equipment, and assembling and debugging flight hardware against DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 standards.

Location: Onsite in Torrance, California; open to relocating candidates. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents.

Salary: $160,000–$190,000 base salary per year plus equity

What you will do

  • Translate ambiguous mission needs into functional and operational requirements for complex electromechanical systems.
  • Design electromagnetic actuators and precision mechanisms using gears, bearings, lead screws, brakes, and encoders.
  • Develop ruggedized avionics enclosures with thermal management and structural survivability for high-vibration and vacuum environments.
  • Design qualification test equipment and methodologies and execute hardware testing to DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 standards.
  • Lead cross-functional integration, system testing, supplier coordination, and manufacturing deviation management.
  • Assemble, bring up, and debug hardware prototypes using a hands-on design-build-test approach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of full product lifecycle experience, from ideation and prototyping through production.
  • Strong understanding of electromagnetic principles, mechanical load paths, and load cases.
  • Experience with strength, fatigue, and life-cycle sizing analysis for gears, shafts, housings, and actuator components.
  • Advanced SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD experience, including complex assemblies and configuration management.
  • Fluency in ASME Y14.5 GD&T, 2D drawing creation, DFM collaboration, and aerospace or military hardware qualification.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing custom test equipment, writing formal procedures, and executing qualification campaigns.
  • Knowledge of AGMA standards and gearbox design, including ratios, backlash, lubrication, and specialized fabrication.
  • Experience in both high-compliance programs and fast-paced R&D environments.
