Wastewater Treatment Technician

What you will do

• Operate, monitor, and adjust wastewater treatment systems and process equipment.
• Collect samples, perform testing, monitor treatment parameters, and maintain operating records.
• Perform wastewater transfers, chemical additions, sludge handling, inspections, and basic preventive maintenance.
• Support system startup, shutdown, troubleshooting, repairs, audits, inspections, reporting, and incident investigations.
• Report permit exceedances, equipment failures, spills, safety concerns, and environmental issues.
• Handle treatment chemicals safely, use required PPE, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• South Carolina Physical/Chemical Wastewater Operator certification, Class D, or the ability to obtain the appropriate certification within the specified employment period.
• High school diploma or GED and at least two years of experience in industrial wastewater treatment, chemical processing, utilities, manufacturing, or a related industrial environment.
• Working knowledge of pumps, piping systems, valves, and process equipment.
• Ability to follow operating procedures and environmental requirements, troubleshoot issues, perform basic calculations, and maintain accurate records.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and data entry systems, with effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, lift up to 50 lbs, work indoors and outdoors, wear chemical-resistant PPE and respirators, and support shifts, overtime, weekend coverage, or on-call emergencies.

Nice to have

• Experience in chemical manufacturing.
• Experience with pH adjustment, metals precipitation, dissolved air flotation, filtration, or biological treatment systems.
• Familiarity with environmental permits and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Forklift certification.
