Potable Water & Wastewater Treatment Operator

What you will do

• Operate and monitor potable water treatment systems, including filtration, chlorination, disinfection, storage, and distribution.
• Operate wastewater treatment processes such as aeration, clarification, sludge handling, and disinfection.
• Perform routine sampling, laboratory testing, analysis, chemical dosing, and control adjustments.
• Maintain operational logs, laboratory records, compliance reports, and incident notifications.
• Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot pumps, valves, blowers, instrumentation, electrical systems, and treatment processes.
• Work rotating shifts, take on-call duties, respond to emergencies, and coordinate repairs with maintenance teams and contractors.

Requirements

• Texas TCEQ water treatment certification is required: Class D minimum, with Class C, B, or A required according to system size and complexity.
• Valid Texas driver’s license required.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–5+ years of water or wastewater operations experience, depending on certification level.
• Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes, laboratory testing, regulatory compliance, and mechanical troubleshooting.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening required.

Nice to have

• Confined space entry and HAZWOPER training.
• First Aid/CPR certification.
• Post-secondary education in environmental science, engineering technology, or a related field.
• Experience with SCADA systems and automated controls.
