Head of Recovery (Fintech)

What you will do

• Design and implement segmented debt collection frameworks across business and consumer lending, from early-stage collections through legal recovery, restructuring, and write-offs.
• Build the recovery function’s organizational structure, recruit talent, and establish collections systems, dashboards, agent tooling, and dialer infrastructure.
• Direct legal recovery strategies and coordinate with external counsel, law enforcement agencies, and regulatory bodies on non-performing loans.
• Develop incentive structures, KPIs, commission models, and performance frameworks for the collections and recovery network.
• Own reporting on recovery rates, recovery costs, and portfolio-level loss given default trends, contributing recommendations to credit committee decisions.
• Collaborate with credit, legal, risk, and finance teams to align recovery activities with underwriting and portfolio strategies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; an LLB is advantageous but not required.
• At least 7 years of experience in credit or debt recovery, including senior leadership of recovery functions handling high-value non-performing loans.
• Experience with both corporate recovery and high-volume digital or retail collections, including analytics-led and technology-enabled approaches.
• Strong knowledge of debt recovery laws, banking regulations, and court procedures in Nigeria.
• Experience designing or scaling recovery operations, including organizational design, systems and process development, and team hiring.
• National recovery coverage across all six geopolitical zones in Nigeria, with a strong network of legal counsel and law enforcement contacts.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with dialer and CRM systems, SMS, USSD, and app-based collection nudges.
• Experience with propensity-to-pay scoring, behavioral segmentation, and portfolio analytics.
• Strong negotiation, problem-solving, decision-making, and financial data interpretation skills.
