Principal Mechanical Engineer - Cell Hardware (Robotics): Developing and commercializing complex electromechanical robotic work cells and automation equipment for high-density warehouse systems with an accent on mechanical design, prototyping, validation, and manufacturing integration. Focus on designing reliable hardware, performing feasibility and tolerance analyses, validating safety, and providing technical leadership to suppliers and junior engineers.
Location: Wilmington, Massachusetts, USA — HQ; hybrid work arrangement
Salary: $150,000–$206,800 annual base salary, plus benefits.

What you will do
- Conceptualize, prototype, analyze, design, and validate complex electromechanical systems and robotic work cells.
- Develop reliable hardware solutions for palletizing, depalletizing, product manipulation, and material handling.
- Use SolidWorks to create detailed designs, mechanical drawings, tolerance analyses, BOMs, and engineering change notices.
- Evaluate components and concepts through feasibility studies, quantitative trade studies, mechanical analysis, and testing.
- Define test protocols, write test plans, troubleshoot prototypes, and validate design safety and effectiveness.
- Provide technical direction to suppliers and design partners, lead design reviews, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
- At least 15 years of hands-on mechanical design experience.
- Experience designing parts for machining, casting, sheet metal, plastics, and fabricated assemblies.
- Strong mechanical intuition, hands-on prototyping skills, independent judgment, and effective written and verbal communication.
- Experience with industrial robotics, automation, and material handling is strongly preferred.
- Up to 10% travel may be required; a valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer locations are necessary.
Nice to have
- Full proficiency with SolidWorks.
- Experience with FEA using SolidWorks Simulation or Ansys.
