Company

hirify.global is a renewable energy and ocean technology public benefit corporation developing technologies that capture ultra-low-cost renewable energy from the oceans.

What you will do

  • Own mechanical subsystems for the autonomous ocean-going Node, including structures, electronics packaging, fluid systems, cable routing, testing apparatuses, and ground-support equipment.
  • Lead trade studies, requirements and architecture definition, detailed design, engineering reviews, prototype testing, commissioning, and field deployment.
  • Create and maintain component and assembly CAD models in NX and Teamcenter, along with detailed drawings using GD&T and tolerance stack-ups.
  • Select materials and develop corrosion-conscious designs for long-duration seawater service.
  • Work with external fabricators, vendors, technicians, and engineers throughout prototyping, fabrication, testing, and deployment.
  • Mentor less-experienced engineers and establish design and analysis standards.

Requirements

  • Degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, naval architecture, marine engineering, or another engineering discipline.
  • Extensive experience designing components, structures, and assemblies from materials including steel, aluminum, titanium, plastics, and composites.
  • At least 5 years of 3D CAD modeling experience and a work history covering at least five design-build-test-deploy, release, or production cycles.
  • Strong hand calculations for structural analysis and experience with structural FEA.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and provide technical guidance to engineers, designers, technicians, and suppliers.
  • Ability to work on-site in Portland, Oregon and travel to vendors and test sites as needed.

Nice to have

  • Marine electronics packaging, sheet metal design, sealing methods, piping systems, or hands-on fabrication, assembly, and testing experience.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping, instrumentation and controls, NX/Teamcenter, NX NASTRAN or FEMAP.
  • Experience using Python, Julia, MATLAB, Mathematica, or a similar language for data analysis.
  • Advanced engineering degree or five additional years of experience in lieu of one.

Culture & Benefits

  • Creative, scrappy, collaborative environment with high autonomy and an idea-meritocratic approach.
  • Flexible working hours and unlimited, flexible paid time off.
  • Company-paid gold-level PPO health insurance for full-time employees, partners, and dependents.
  • Company-paid dental, vision, and disability insurance.
  • Access to 401(k), health FSA, and dependent care FSA accounts.
  • Company equity and relocation assistance to Portland.
