Mechanical Engineer (Solar)

Location: Redmond, WA, United States. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or eligible for authorization under U.S. export regulations.

Annual salary: $105,000–$140,000 for L1, $140,000–$190,000 for L2, and $170,000–$215,000 for L3.

What you will do

• Design and manage detailed CAD models for solar array mechanical systems, from components through spacecraft-level assemblies.
• Develop stowed and deployed configurations and perform structural, kinematic, and thermal analyses using FEA and hand calculations.
• Own mechanical components through concept development, manufacturing, testing, integration, and deployment.
• Define system requirements and design-for-manufacturing strategies focused on cost, reliability, and production efficiency.
• Design and execute environmental and performance test plans for launch and orbital conditions.
• Work with supply chain, manufacturing teams, and vendors to support production and integration.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, analysis, testing, and/or manufacturing.
• Proficiency with advanced CAD software; NX and Teamcenter are preferred.
• Experience with high-fidelity structural FEA; Ansys is preferred.
• Strong understanding and application of GD&T principles.
• Must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Three or more years of professional experience designing solar products.
• Expertise in materials selection, advanced manufacturing methods, and surface treatments for space applications.
• Experience with PCB design and PCBA mechanical integration.
