TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and integrating primary and secondary structures for reusable Earth-return vehicles with an accent on structural architecture, finite element analysis, manufacturing drawings, and flight hardware qualification. Focus on solving stiffness, buckling, thermal expansion, re-entry loading, and structural test challenges across the vehicle lifecycle.

Location: Playa Vista, California; in-person five days per week

Salary: $210,000–$235,000 annually, plus performance-based bonuses and equity.

Company

hirify.global is an orbital logistics company building reusable Earth-return vehicles for in-space manufacturing, on-orbit warehousing, responsive logistics, commercial cargo, research payloads, and critical aid delivery.

What you will do

  • Lead the mechanical design of the CarryAll vehicle’s primary and secondary structures, payload bay, interfaces, and deployable heatshield.
  • Perform and approve hand calculations and finite element analyses for stiffness, buckling, and thermal expansion compatibility using ANSYS, FEMAP, and NASTRAN.
  • Create and approve manufacturing drawings with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in accordance with ASME Y14.5.
  • Lead assembly activities and own structural qualification testing, including static load, random vibration, shock, and deployment tests.
  • Work with machine shops, composite vendors, and external partners to resolve fabrication issues and deliver precision parts on schedule.
  • Mentor junior engineers and raise standards for design, analysis, and first-principles engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience designing and analyzing complex aerospace structures and mechanisms.
  • Proven experience working on space vehicles or rockets and taking primary structures from concept through PDR/CDR to flight.
  • Experience with Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or similar parametric modeling software.
  • Experience with FEA, classical hand calculations, aerospace materials, and extreme thermal environments.
  • Experience designing for manufacturing, including CNC machining, sheet metal, welding, and composite layup.

Nice to have

  • Active U.S. Government Security Clearance.
  • Experience with deployable space structures, mechanisms, high-heat environments, or thermal protection systems.
  • Proficiency in Python or MATLAB for design automation and data post-processing.
  • Knowledge of NASA-STD-5000 series and SMC-S-016 aerospace standards.

Culture & Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage, with base-tier medical insurance and full vision and dental premiums covered.
  • Short- and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, paid time off, and nine paid holidays.
  • 401(k) with company match, annual performance bonuses, and meaningful equity.
  • Daily DoorDash lunch stipend, unlimited snacks, coffee, and tea.
  • Pet-friendly office with monthly company events and happy hours.
