Mechanical Design Engineer (Structures) Level 2

Location: Gardena, California, United States. Must meet U.S. Government export-control eligibility requirements: U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible to obtain the required authorizations.

What you will do

• Design structures and ground systems for the launch and control of flight vehicles.
• Own component and assembly designs from conception through manufacturing, including structural analysis, process development, and validation requirements.
• Develop product requirements and system-level trade studies to optimize complex aerospace systems.
• Create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings in SOLIDWORKS.
• Conduct testing and design iterations to ensure reliable performance across operating environments.
• Develop high-rate, high-yield manufacturing processes and coordinate sourcing, assembly, integration, and in-house production.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical discipline.
• 4+ years of professional experience in mechanical design and analysis.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience developing manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD, preferably SOLIDWORKS, including large assembly models and drawings.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T, mechanical engineering fundamentals, structural analysis, failure modes, and design for manufacturability.
• Must satisfy U.S. Government export-control eligibility requirements or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations.

Nice to have

• Experience with sheet metal design, welded structures, and vehicle systems.
• Ownership of complex components or assemblies through medium- to high-volume production ramp.
• Exposure to production machinery, industrial sensors, motion systems, dispense systems, temperature controllers, laser distance sensors, injection molding, or die casting.
