TL;DR
Staff Engineer, Mechanical (Aerospace) (V-BAT aircraft and ground support equipment): Designing, analyzing, integrating, and testing mechanical systems across the full product lifecycle with an accent on structural design, CAD, material selection, manufacturing, and ruggedized aerospace hardware. Focus on validating design integrity through stress, thermal, tolerance stack-up, fatigue, and FEA calculations, while troubleshooting failures during ground and flight testing.

Location: Dallas, Texas; on-site

Salary: $130,000–$200,000 per year, plus bonus, benefits, and equity for regular full-time employees.

What you will do

  • Design, analyze, and integrate mechanical systems and subsystems for V-BAT aircraft and ground support equipment.
  • Develop payload integrations, avionics packaging, harnessing and connector selections, transport structures, and launch and recovery systems.
  • Own mechanical engineering deliverables from concept and prototyping through testing, production, and field support.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Program Management, and Flight Operations to deliver buildable, testable, and reliable designs.
  • Provide hands-on technical support during ground and flight testing, demonstrations, and field operations, including rapid troubleshooting and design fixes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • 5–6 years of hands-on mechanical design experience in aerospace, ground support equipment, or ruggedized hardware systems.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, NX, CATIA, or similar, including detailed drawings, assemblies, and GD&T-compliant documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of structural design, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with engineering calculations covering stress, thermal analysis, tolerance stack-up, fatigue, and FEA as applicable.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program Management.

Nice to have

  • Root cause analysis and structured problem-solving experience.
  • Familiarity with ASME, ISO, ASTM, MIL-STD, and environmental qualification testing requirements.
  • Knowledge of power distribution, hydraulics, or aerospace support systems.
  • Experience working with external suppliers or contract manufacturers.
