TL;DR
Turbomachinery Engineer II / Senior Turbomachinery Engineer I/II (Aerospace): Designing and developing rotating and stationary turbomachinery for the Archimedes rocket engine across the full hardware life cycle with an accent on hydrodynamics, mechanical systems, manufacturability, testing, and reliability. Focus on clean-sheet turbopump design, pump head and suction performance, flight data evaluation, certification support, and reusable engine hardware.

Location: Onsite at hirify.global headquarters in Long Beach, California, United States. Occasional travel to engineering offices, test sites, and launch sites is required. U.S. office roles are subject to ITAR work-authorization requirements.

Base salary: $126,000–$176,000 USD per year for California.

What you will do

  • Own significant turbomachinery components and systems through design, manufacturing, testing, flight, and reuse campaigns.
  • Design and analyze rotating and stationary turbomachinery for the Archimedes engine, including hydrodynamic, mechanical, secondary-system, and integrated analyses.
  • Develop next-generation flowpaths and improve pump head and suction performance.
  • Support manufacturing by designing components for optimal manufacturability.
  • Plan and support component- and engine-level testing, qualification, acceptance campaigns, and certification activities.
  • Prepare for flight campaigns, review flight data and hardware, define turbomachinery methodologies, and provide occasional launch-site engineering support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
  • Level II: 2+ years of turbomachinery design experience; Senior Engineer I: 5+ years; Senior Engineer II: 8+ years.
  • Experience with commercial design and analysis software.
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical design and fluid dynamics principles.
  • For work in U.S. offices, eligibility under U.S. ITAR export-control regulations is required or must be obtainable.
  • Ability to work onsite in Long Beach and travel occasionally to engineering, test, and launch sites.

Nice to have

  • Proficiency in GD&T and experience with NX, Ansys, BladeGen, or StarCCM.
  • Rocket turbomachinery and flowpath design experience.
  • Experience with compressible flows, cryogenic fluids, and real-gas fluids.
  • Experience with design, qualification, and production best practices.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced development environment.
