Senior Rotordynamics Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: San Francisco, United States; in-office five days per week is essential

What you will do

• Lead rotordynamic analysis of turbomachinery systems, including critical speeds, stability margins, imbalance response, torsional and modal analysis, and Campbell diagrams.
• Select bearings and define preload, stiffness, damping, thermal management, and lubrication trade-offs.
• Define and execute instrumented test campaigns for rotordynamic validation, including vibration, whirl, and rotor-response measurement.
• Develop computational models using StarCCM+ and AxSTREAM, and use GasTurb and NPSS to assess interactions between compressor maps, mechanical behavior, and cycle performance.
• Define GD&T and tolerance analysis for rotating assemblies, considering rotor balance, seal clearances, and dynamic behavior.
• Partner with manufacturing on high-precision rotating components, including balance grades, runout tolerances, and assembly sequences.

Requirements

• 5+ years of turbomachinery design experience with rotordynamic analysis and ownership of mechanical packaging for real hardware.
• Hands-on experience with DyRoBes or equivalent rotordynamic modeling tools.
• Experience developing blade and compressor geometry using CFD, streamline curvature, and 1D meanline methods, including StarCCM+ and AxSTREAM.
• Experience with mechanical validation instrumentation and data reduction.
• Experience with GasTurb, NPSS, CAD for rotating assemblies using Siemens NX, and multiphysics analysis.
• Experience scripting analysis automation and post-processing with Python or MATLAB, plus the ability to lead cross-functional design reviews and contribute to system architecture.
