TL;DR
Avionics Intern (Aerospace): Supporting the design, simulation, and testing of satellite communication systems and spacecraft components with an accent on mechanical design, firmware development, and thermal modeling. Focus on hands-on lab work, PCB layout, and data analysis to advance orbital infrastructure capabilities.

Location: Must be based in San Carlos, CA or Seattle, WA

hirify.global is a startup building orbital infrastructure to power and connect the space economy through energy distribution and high-bandwidth optical data transmission.

What you will do

  • Design, simulate, and test RF/optical communication systems and components.
  • Perform spacecraft and launch vehicle analysis, thermal modeling, and mechanical design.
  • Develop firmware and software for avionics, compute, and ground systems.
  • Execute PCB layout, electrical design, and integration of satellite components.
  • Conduct propulsion system design, fluids analysis, and structural mechanics.
  • Perform data analysis, CAD modeling, and technical documentation.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual due to ITAR regulations.
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in a STEM field.
  • Strong fundamentals in math, physics, or engineering.
  • Ability to work hands-on in labs and with test equipment.
  • Collaborative, self-directed work style with comfort in ambiguous environments.

Nice to have

  • Experience with CAD tools like SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Creo.
  • Proficiency in simulation tools such as MATLAB, Python, or STK.
  • Hands-on lab experience or a background in robotics/maker projects.
  • Familiarity with RF, thermal, or electrical systems.
  • Prior internship or project experience in aerospace or hardware.
