TL;DR
Production Test Engineering Manager (Aerospace): Leading production test engineering for spaceflight hardware and ground support equipment with an accent on test strategy, team leadership, and vibration, thermal, and vacuum testing. Focus on building and troubleshooting test systems, managing schedules and budgets, and conducting risk assessments and test readiness reviews.

Location: Houston, United States. Proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency is required, along with completion of a U.S. government background investigation. Evening and weekend work may be required to meet critical project milestones.

What you will do

  • Lead the Production Test Engineering and Specialty Testing departments in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop more than 10 mechanical, electrical, and software engineers.
  • Manage subsystem schedules, staffing, budgets, deliverables, team performance, and OKRs.
  • Develop production test strategies and support alignment with program milestones and on-time hardware deliveries.
  • Guide development of ground support equipment and facilitate vibration, thermal, vacuum, qualification, and acceptance testing of flight hardware.
  • Lead test planning, risk assessments, safety reviews, test readiness reviews, and troubleshooting of existing test systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of engineering or comparable experience.
  • Experience hiring and building high-performing teams, managing project scope and schedules, and directing engineers.
  • Hands-on experience building, testing, or assembling ground support equipment for spaceflight applications.
  • Experience selecting mechanical components and instrumentation for test systems.
  • Experience with vibration, thermal, or vacuum testing; experience with all three is preferred.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation and provide proof of U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency.

Nice to have

  • Experience integrating analog and digital components with data acquisition systems such as cRIO and cDAQ.
  • Experience with LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python, or other data acquisition and data reduction software.
  • Experience with pressure system test stands, complex fluid systems, hazardous gases, and mechanical or electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience working with mechanical and electrical technicians.
