Thermo Mechanical Engineer (AI)

Location: Bristol, United Kingdom; UK-based candidates are preferred, or candidates should be able to work UK hours with occasional on-site collaboration.

What you will do

• Lead the design and specification of advanced cooling systems for high-density AI accelerator hardware.
• Develop cooling architectures spanning direct-to-chip liquid cooling, cold plates, CDUs, rack-level thermal management, and hybrid liquid-air host chassis.
• Define thermal and mechanical requirements with third-party suppliers and review proposed solutions.
• Contribute to chassis interfaces, manifold routing, fittings, and other mechanical integration details.
• Model and simulate thermal performance at cold-plate, chassis, and rack levels.
• Develop or oversee thermal test platforms, lead design reviews, and validate solutions through prototyping, testing, and production.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• At least 7 years of experience developing hardware products with thermal-design liquid-cooling systems for high-performance computing, data centres, or equivalent high-density hardware.
• Expertise in direct-to-chip liquid cooling, cold-plate design, and CDU or rack-level systems.
• Hands-on experience with thermal modelling and simulation tools, thermal-fluid analysis, materials selection, and system reliability principles.
• Experience taking designs through prototyping, testing, and production.
• Strong cross-disciplinary collaboration and supplier-management skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI accelerator or HPC hardware.
• Mechanical engineering experience supporting chassis design and integration.
• Experience working with data-centre operators or hyperscale infrastructure teams.
• Knowledge of liquid handling and serviceability in deployed environments.
• UK-based experience or the ability to work UK hours with occasional on-site collaboration.
