TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer VI - Test (Aerospace) (Rocket Motor Testing): Leading complex mechanical testing programs for defense and space systems with an accent on test assembly, data acquisition, statistical analysis, and verification and validation. Focus on designing high-risk test programs, analyzing solid rocket motor performance, and applying CAD, CFD, structural, thermal, and dynamic analysis to aerospace hardware.

Location: Reno, Nevada, United States. Applicants must be U.S. Persons under ITAR/EAR regulations and must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.

Salary: $165,000–$190,000 USD per year.

What you will do

  • Lead complex and high-risk mechanical testing programs, including test planning, assembly techniques, data acquisition, measurement, and signal processing.
  • Design and oversee testing frameworks and connect test activities with requirements verification and validation.
  • Develop technical presentations, specialized documentation, and clear narratives for technical audiences.
  • Create and review detailed 2D and 3D CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and GD&T documentation.
  • Perform or guide CFD, structural, dynamic, and thermal analyses, applying engineering judgment to manufacturing and assembly issues.
  • Coordinate program plans, procurement activities, vendor evaluations, schedules, requirements, risk management, and project execution.

Requirements

  • 15 or more years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a relevant engineering discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of electromechanical actuators, igniters, pressure vessels, solid rocket motors, hot gas valves, and thrusters.
  • Understanding of propellant chemistry, combustion, grain geometry, internal ballistics, solid propellant manufacturing, and rocket motor performance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
  • Positive, cooperative, self-motivated, and professional approach with the ability to contribute as needed.

Nice to have

  • Rocket motor design and testing experience.
  • Master of Science in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time.
