Mechanical Engineer II (Aerospace)

Location: Redondo Beach, United States; onsite

Salary: $110,000–$140,000 per year, plus potential stock options and benefits.

What you will do

• Own hardware development from concept through launch and orbital maneuvers.
• Develop primary and secondary structures and critical space mechanisms using first-principles structural design.
• Perform and document hand calculations, finite element analysis, and kinematic analysis.
• Define manufacturing approaches, source commercial components, and coordinate materials, fabrication, and assembly.
• Produce engineering drawings and specifications for manufacturing.
• Create test plans and support structural qualification and acceptance testing while coordinating with propulsion, electrical, software, controls, manufacturing, and other engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
• 3+ years of mechanical design experience.
• Proficiency with CAD software and the ability to learn new tools.
• Experience modeling complex shapes, including lofting and surfacing.
• Experience with conceptual design, hardware fabrication, and testing.
• Applicants must be U.S. Persons or eligible to obtain an export license under applicable U.S. export regulations, including ITAR and EAR.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• Experience with space-flown hardware design and analysis.
• Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and finite element analysis.
• Ability to perform basic structural and thermal analysis.
• Creative, self-driven approach and the ability to lead projects to completion.
