Senior Spacecraft Mechanical Engineer I - Mission Formulation (Aerospace): Leading mechanical formulation of satellite systems, including structures, mechanisms, bus configurations, technical budgets, requirements, analyses, and testing, with an accent on spacecraft mission development from concept through production and operation. Focus on designing lightweight spacecraft, defining deployment systems, performing structural and mechanism analyses, and validating requirements for civil, national security, commercial, and interplanetary missions.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States. The position is based at hirify.global's global headquarters and requires U.S. citizenship due to program requirements. U.S. export-control rules may also require U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, refugee or asylee status, or applicable government authorization.

Base pay: $115,000–$158,000 USD annually in California.

What you will do

  • Lead mechanical formulation for new satellite systems and business development opportunities.
  • Develop lightweight, high-performance spacecraft bus configurations, structures, mechanisms, and deployment systems.
  • Maintain mass and mechanical technical budgets, requirements, verification methods, configuration trades, and interface specifications.
  • Perform structural, mechanism, packaging, hand-calculation, and FEA analyses across vehicle functions.
  • Plan and execute structural, thermal, and vibration testing, including test-data analysis.
  • Own mechanical technical development from conceptual design through production, testing, and operation, including CAD, drawings, schedules, vendors, budgets, and design documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or another technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience in the aerospace industry.
  • Experience supporting satellite or spacecraft development programs.
  • Experience with CAD modeling and technical drawing.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to program requirements.

Nice to have

  • Active security clearance and advanced engineering degree.
  • Spacecraft or satellite design, deployment-system, mechanism, and rapid conceptual-design experience.
  • Experience with FEA, GD&T, hands-on development, and thermal or vibration test-data interpretation.
  • Knowledge of spacecraft subsystems, space environment, orbital mechanics, rigid-body dynamics, requirements management, and interface-control documentation.
  • Ability to take products from concept through production autonomously and communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
